How To Abolish The Five Major Time Wasters

  1. Ignoring Deadlines

Whatever justification you offer, such as I’ll do it tomorrow or I’ll do it soon, it’s all procrastination. When there are no more tomorrows, the belief that you will finish the activity or project soon will steal away from your time today and put undue stress on you. To avoid falling into this time trap, start your workday with the most unpleasant task. Determine the project’s target outcome, create a mental image of it, and list manageable daily tasks that will help you get there. The project doesn’t have to be finished in a single day.

Set deadlines and work on them daily to get the desired result. Consider the repercussions of not finishing the job or task as well. This will spur you on to complete it. Schedule a specific time for projects and make a commitment to stick to your strategy. Doing this will make you less likely to put it off until tomorrow. You’ll be in a beautiful, emotional place to handle other responsibilities after the project.

  1. Telephone and Email

Schedule a time slot on your calendar to read and respond to emails.
Before I begin my daily responsibilities in the morning and again before I end my day, I check and respond to emails. I only sometimes check my email when I have a few extra minutes during the day because of cancellations or if I finish a task earlier than expected. You will spend more time conversing online and less time finishing other essential things if you read and respond to emails all day or whenever you get mail.

Make folders for emails you want to read later on your own time but don’t have time to read right away. Use filters to reduce the volume of junk messages and write succinct, to-the-point responses. Depending on your services or products, it is a great idea to create an “often most asked questions” list that you can refer to when responding to inquiries or post on your website (if you have one) as a resource if the response does not call for a more specific answer from you.

  1. Meetings

Establish a beginning and an end time for meetings. Make sure you have an agenda before you host or attend a meeting. The meeting’s goal expected results, and action items for review should be listed on the schedule. Ensure the meeting ends on time. Take thorough minutes or record the meeting, have the transcript of the notes made, and distribute it to all participants. To avoid wasting time outside your workplace if it is not essential, ensure the meeting has a legitimate purpose.

  1. Unanticipated Guests

Establish office hours and communicate them to your loved ones, acquaintances, and coworkers (mainly if you run a home-based business). They should understand that you are working during those hours and should only be interrupted in an emergency. Lock your office door with a do not disturb sign. Avoid having meaningless conversations. Stand up and end the discussion.

  1. No Daily Strategy

You must have a plan for the day’s tasks before you even get out of bed.
Do not waste time considering your plans for the day. Purchase a weekly planner or use a spiral notebook to keep track of time and tasks, appointments, and time set aside for marketing, calls, and emails. Set timelines and schedule everything. Clear your desk at the end of the day and make plans for the following day. Without thinking about the responsibilities for tomorrow, you’ll feel organized, proud, and ready to enjoy the day. They’ve already been prepared. You can assess your weekly progress at the end of the week and adjust as necessary.
